Hoornsman B.V. was founded nearly 100 years ago as a livestock farming business. In the 1960s, the company transitioned into arable farming, but the real transformation occurred in 1985 when owner Dick Hoornsman discovered flower bulb cultivation. What began with the growing of daffodils and anemones quickly expanded to include tulips, crocuses, muscari (grape hyacinths), galanthus (snowdrops), and alliums.
In 1989, Hoornsman B.V. decided to specialize further in the cultivation, breeding, and sale of callas. These beautiful bulb flowers have since become the core focus of the company, which has positioned itself as an expert in calla cultivation and breeding. With the wide range of flower bulbs produced, Hoornsman B.V. is now a year-round production company.
Today, the next generation is already actively involved in the business. Nick Hoornsman joined the company in 2019, and in 2025, his brother Bram Hoornsman followed. Together, they ensure that the rich history of the company continues, with a focus on innovation and a sustainable future.
